Fred's Gardening Tips

My love of gardening has been with me all my life. Now retired, I’m sharing tips on gardening in hopes of sparking others interest in the wonderful world of growing plants!

Propagation is the process of creating new plants from existing plants.

COLEUS PLANT PROPAGATION

1. Cut off a 5 inch stem below the node
2. Remove the leaves by pinching them from the stem leaving the top flowers

3. Place the stem in a bottle full of water, this allows you to check the progress of the roots growing from the stem.

4. After about 2 weeks you will notice the roots appearing. Change the water weekly, place the bottle in a sunny location.

5. Plant can be removed from the bottle after about 2 months and be placed in a plant container using rooting soil

Planting takes place after the soil warms in the spring. A plant will grow to about 3 feet high and wide, no fertilizer is required, plant in a sunny location.
